Further Education
Tenon Audit has been involved with the Further Education (FE) sector since incorporation in 1992 and has had dedicated specialists to the sector from the outset. Our current established client base is circa 50 external audits throughout the country. We provide independent audit opinions on institutions financial statements, as well as a regularity opinion to both the institution and the LSC.
Being a national practice we have focused our sector work from regional offices in Sunderland, Manchester, Nottingham and Basingstoke. This has allowed specialist knowledge to be developed that ensures any audit is completed by staff who know the sector and the issues they face.
Work with the LSC
The Learning & Skills Council (LSC) awarded the firm a contract to undertake funding audits (including ILR, WBL and ESF co-financing) at colleges and external institutions predominantly in the South East & South West regions. However, this work has expanded to cover organisations in the Midlands and North. With the abolition of the ILR audit we are now providing funding assurance directly to colleges throughout England.
We are also currently tendering to undertake funding audits on behalf of the LSC at those colleges outside the Plan Led approach.
These services are provided from our offices in Nottingham and our national centre of excellence in Basingstoke.
Our work with the LSC includes membership of a number of working groups developing policy for the sector. These include:
- > ILR Funding and Audit Forum
- > Accounting Policies Working Group
- > Audit Code of Practice
- > Risk Management
- > Ufi Funding Group
- > Regularity Audit
- > Learner Existence and Eligibility
Other services
In addition to the work with the LSC, both directly through the funding audit and on one off assignments, we have developed links with other organisations such as Learn Direct and the Government Office to expand the audit service we are able to offer. These include, but are not exclusive of:
- > European Social Fund (ESF)
- > European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
- > Other one off grant claims
- > Teachers Pension Agency
Tenon Audit is also able to offer training in these areas targeted at both college staff and governors. We also offer one off training events with some local LSCs to compliment existing programmes. We remain committed to the sector and through our involvement with the LSC and other leading contributors we are able to provide services that continue to add value.
