Autumn Update - Benchmarking interim managersGood afternoon, “It’s not what you know but who you know” A well known phrase, particularly relevant to the interim management market. I think it would be fair to say that every interim we know has a strong network, as do the majority of our clients. The clever bit is putting them together in such a way to avoid a square peg in a round hole. That is where we come in. We meet every interim manager and fully brief them on the assignment. Also, during this meeting we get our chemistry set out to establish a suitable “fit” with the end client. Only then do we make recommendations. References are important. However, to date no one has ever given me a bad one. Why? Well you wouldn’t give details of a referee if you thought they would do that. So we need to look beyond this. Extensive knowledge of all our interim managers enables us to identify indirect contacts, perhaps people who have worked for them before or had dealings with, maybe a client or supplier. By speaking to them as well gives us a really good understanding of their work patterns and further helps to ensure the assignment is a success. Ultimately, proof of the pudding is in the eating.
